Europe’s leading truck manufacturers are rolling out electric HGVs and high fuel costs are making electric vans and trucks increasingly attractive for hauliers. For fleet operators, the next question is how to charge them at the depot. MPMC’s BCH Series mobile BESS charger combines battery storage and fast DC charging in one unit, so a depot can charge more vehicles, faster, from the grid connection it already has.

Why European Fleets Choose Battery-Buffered Charging

More Charging Power Than the Grid Connection Alone

A BCH unit draws a steady supply from the grid, stores it and releases it at higher power when vehicles return. The BCH-600-400 converts 280 kW of AC input into 400 kW of DC charging; the BCH-800-600 delivers 600 kW from the same input with 1C charge and discharge; and the BCH-500-1000 combines 560 kW of input with 1,075 kWh of storage. Depots can electrify their fleets without waiting for a grid reinforcement.

Large Depot Yards, Ready for Mobile Charging

Medium and large logistics companies usually operate large yards with room for battery storage and mobile charging. BCH units can be positioned beside loading bays or truck parking, connected to the existing supply and brought to full operation within 24 hours.

Sizing is flexible: a depot can start with one or two units, add more as electric vehicles join the fleet, and redeploy units between sites as route patterns change, keeping charging capacity matched to the operation at every stage.

Matching BCH Models to Fleet Duty Cycles

Overnight Charging for Vans and Light Trucks

Urban delivery vans and light trucks that return to the depot each evening can share a BCH-275-200, which delivers 150 kW through two 250 A CCS2 guns from 203.5 kWh of storage and recharges from an 80 kW supply.

      Shift-Change Top-Ups for Electric HGVs

Electric HGVs running multiple shifts need fast top-ups between routes. The BCH-600-400, BCH-800-600 and BCH-500-1000 charge two vehicles at once through 350 A CCS2 guns with a 50-1,000 V output range, keeping trucks on the road for more of each day.

Every BCH model uses blade LFP battery packs rated for 6,000 cycles at 90% depth of discharge with precision temperature control within 6.7°C, and the BCH-800-600 and BCH-500-1000 add sealed liquid-cooled packs, so intensive daily depot cycling sits comfortably within the design life.

Proven With Electric Trucks in Europe

At a UK logistics port, eight BCH-275-200 units lifted charging capacity well beyond the local grid connection and moved electric trucks on four-hour port routes from 10-hour charging cycles to near-continuous charging. A BCH-275-200 in this project delivered 3,457 kWh and saves at least 37.5 tonnes of CO2 a year.

The same approach scales up. In Norway, a 2 MWh BCH system built from 500 kW, 1,000 kWh units with 360 kW / 400 A CCS2 output charges electric construction machinery off-grid, and in the Netherlands a BCH-275-200 and BCH-500-1000 combination charges vehicles from renewable energy at a port and logistics site.
